Robert S. Goodfriend Summer Internship Fund Recipient
“Through these numerous projects, I further honed my analytical, communication and teamwork skills critical to a career in investment banking, while also developed a more in-depth understanding about the distressed M&A field and the financial market in China as a whole.”
This summer I interned at the Investment Banking Division (IBD) of China Great Wall Asset Management Corporation in mainland China, covering Restructuring and Distressed M&A. At the high level, I assisted senior bankers in advising financially troubled companies and helping them change their capital structure to get out of bankruptcy, avoid it in the first place, or launch a sale/auction depending on the scenario. My role was to perform a lot of the financial analyses and modeling required to assess the liquidity/financial health of our clients so that we could devise plans to maximize their remaining value in a limited timeframe. More specifically, I worked closely with senior bankers and sometimes client companies’ CFOs to conduct DCF and liquidation valuations, research potential acquirers for our clients, and build merger models to analyze synergies and dilution/accretion post acquisition. By the time I finished the internship, I had been through the entire debt restructuring process of one of our client companies and the final stage of the distressed sale process of another.
