American Civil Liberties Union - Seattle, WA

Project Description

Strong/Gault Social Advancement Internship Grant Recipient

“This experience has further inspired me to pursue a career in public policy. I want to continue to combat injustice at the policy level and ensure that marginalized groups are represented by their government.”

I served as a Policy Advocacy Intern in the Field department, which fosters alliances with organizations across Washington and works to engage the public in political issues. One of my projects was to identify organizations and non-profits in Washington’s counties and organize a mailing of educational information on voter’s rights restoration. The goal of this project was to inform ex-felons that they retain the right to vote after having completed their sentence. Interning at the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington was a valuable experience that helped me explore a career in policy reform as well as learn how to progress in a professional environment. I have grown more self-advocating and proactive in taking full advantage of the learning opportunities available in a professional setting.
