Bowdoin College Alumni Council Internship Fund Recipient
“A lot of the people I interviewed for the project were people that I grew up with or people that are my friends so it was interesting to listen and hear their stories because many times I didn’t fully realize what they have gone through.”
This summer interviewed recent, teenaged immigrants to Maine, to capture their stories and goals for a book focusing on their experiences, how they are adapting to Maine, the many important contributions they have made to Maine, and their goals for the future. Before the summer I had hoped to finish my interview process with somewhere between 25 and 30 people with most of the tapes transcribed. They come from all around the world ranging from Iraq to Bulgaria, which shows the growing diversity in my home state which is sometimes considered to be the least diverse in the nation.
