Robert S. Goodfriend Summer Internship Fund Recipient
“My experience at Boston Review this summer drastically changed my perception of the professional writing world, and gave me much more experience with tasks such as copy-editing and fact checking than with the larger concepts of the industry.”
I look at the whole summer as an accomplishment because I was able to successfully navigate an abnormal office culture, with only two full-time staff members working out of the central office, and because I became confident making editorial decisions in a professional setting. I am most proud of my work editing and fact-checking articles about drug trafficking in Juarez (http://bostonreview.net/BR35.4/hill.php) and about Al Qaeda’s manipulation of the recent Pakistani floods (http://bostonreview.net/BR35.5/shahzad.php). Both were huge tasks, and both forced me to learn how to edit personal accounts.
Interning at Boston Review has significantly altered my academic and career plans – though I still want to pursue an editorial career in journalism, I am now very interested in the world of online journalism.
