Volunteer Lawyers Project - Portland, ME

Project Description

Preston Public Interest Career Fund Recipient

“I know that I was able to assist people facing extremely stressful situations and truly help them navigate the legal system more effectively. I feel that it was a personal accomplishment for me to be able to help people through those situations.”

One of my greatest personal accomplishments to come out of this internship was my acquisition of experience and general knowledge in many areas of civil law and legal aid. I went into the job endeavoring to learn about the civil legal aid system, and to especially understand the challenges faced by low income people who are unrepresented in these types of cases. The internship program included two scheduled lectures from lawyers working in various fields of law each week. This part of the program was a great way to explore my interests while gaining a great amount of practical knowledge that I could apply during my internship and after.
