Robert S. Goodfriend Summer Internship Fund Recipient
“My summer with Christie’s confirmed that I would like to pursue a career in the art world. I thoroughly enjoyed working at the intersection of the fast-paced business sector, and the arts.”
My internship definitely met my goals and expectations. I was able to gather a conclusive understanding of the art auction business, and Christie’s business model in particular, through this summer program. Weekly seminars and lectures conducted by heads of different internal departments allowed me to learn about the business through many disparate lenses.
In addition, field trips to local museums and galleries gave me the opportunity to gather an understanding of Christie’s role in the greater art world. For example, during an excursion to the Neue Gallerie, I learned about Christie’s vital hand in the famed sale of Gustav Klimt’s Woman in Gold. Finally, hands-on departmental work gave me an understanding of the day-to day tasks involved in conducting a sale.My favorite project was compiling a 500-page binder full of Chinese Textiles sold at recent auctions. In addition, field trips to local museums and galleries gave me the opportunity to gather an understanding of Christie’s role in the greater art world.
