Preston Public Interest Career Fund Recipient
“By working in an office where half of the employees were international and former refugees themselves, I was constantly learning cultural information, even when not teaching clients.”
Exodus is a refugee resettlement agency that primarily assists clients from Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Syria. Exodus’ main goal is for refugees to become self-sufficient and achieve long-term stability in the United States. As the training intern for the Employment Department, I led educational trainings for refugees on how to gain employment in the United States. Additionally, I helped create new trainings as well as modify existing ones. Whether you are a refugee from Burma with a Ph.D. or a construction worker from Syria, all refugees begin at the same starting point in the United States. Though the damage control work done by NGO’s like Exodus is absolutely necessary, my experience interning at a refugee resettlement agency has made me more passionate about pursuing a career in international relations and policy.
