Robert S. Goodfriend Summer Internship Fund Recipient
“I would like to once again thank Career Planning and Mr. Goodfriend for the opportunity to work at Enel Green Power North America this summer – I have no doubt that it was a critical first stepping stone to a career in energy, and one that I will forever remember.”
I received a Robert S. Goodfriend fellowship to work at Enel Green Power North America, an owner/operator of renewable energy plants across the U.S. and Canada. I worked in the Energy Management department, a part of the company which handles the energy that is produced after the plant is operational; among other things, the group’s work includes executing the plant’s PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), a contract that establishes hedged pricing mechanisms and other project protocols, managing power grid congestion prices, and tracking energy markets as well as the performance of our own projects. My specific tasks included automating price calculation spreadsheets for the group’s Revenue Recognition Project, preparing a presentation for EGPNA’s partnership program with MIT’s MITES (Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science) summer program, researching and learning about energy markets and price correlations between various resources and electricity rates, researching and learning about grid congestion and hedging mechanisms, and finally working with the Finance department to prepare an Exhibit for a PPA contract undergoing finalization.
