Preston Public Interest Career Fund Recipient
“My interactions with public interest attorneys and my own clients confirmed that I can combine my passion for legal studies with my commitment to serving the community.”
I spent the summer coordinating and running uncontested divorce clinics for low income individuals and victims of domestic violence. During the course of the summer, I learned how to explain to clients the cumbersome and confusing paperwork that they would need to file with the County Clerk in order to begin the divorce process. I also became better at assessing clients, determining whether they would understand my more general instructions, or if I needed to describe the uncontested divorce process to them step by step.
My interactions with public interest attorneys and my own clients confirmed that I can combine my passion for legal studies with my commitment to serving the community. I am currently exploring the avenues by which I might do so, including attending law school and working in a private public interest firm or for the government.
