The McCain Institute - Washington, DC

Project Description

Strong/Gault Social Advancement Internship Grant Recipient

“I was so impressed by The McCain Institute’s nonpartisan mission to promote human rights, freedom, democracy, and security around the globe; and by the incredible projects the staff members have developed and continue to develop in various countries to see these goals through.”

The opportunity to work with and to learn from Ambassador Volker went above and beyond any expectation I could have had going into the internship; having the chance to hear him speak about world issues, to place these situations in their historical context, and then to articulate potential solutions was just remarkable. There were definitely instances at work where I felt extremely intimidated; whether it be sitting in on a meeting with a prominent political figure, interacting with the extremely knowledgeable and successful staff members of The Institute, or trying to tackle an assignment that required a lot of background knowledge that I didn’t necessarily have. However, working with this group of extremely intelligent and motivated people was so inspiring, and has helped me to identify what I would like to try to do in the future.
