Boys and Girls Club - Mancton, Canada

Project Description

Preston Public Interest Career Fund Recipient

“This summer has opened my eyes and helped me realize that just around the corner a family is living a completely different life.”

I was giving the amazing opportunity to work with immigrant families. The Boys and Girls Club works closely with MAGMA (Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area) And so about half of our summer kids were immigrants from Africa and Asia. This was also something new to me. These children were dealing with a huge culture shock. Many of the children from Africa grew up in refugee camps, where they were accustomed to running around free, weren’t used to having rules or structure and where they had never had electricity before. It was an amazing experience being able to work with them. I was really intrigued by the adjustments these families have to make.
