Project Description

Strong/Gault Social Advancement Internship Grant Recipient

“I’ve come to realize that there are a lot of different types of jobs within public health, even within the focus of child nutritional health.”

After this summer, I am now trained in human subjects and community-based participatory research, as well as in the numerous protocols we used to conduct our research.  Additionally, I made fact sheets on the Summer Food Service Program and existing after-school curricula for middle school students that emphasize nutrition and physical activity, which PRC staff may use in the future as they continue intervention work in after-school programs and in camps next summer. One of the largest projects I had full responsibility over was to conduct, write up, and revise a literature review of physical activity and nutrition interventions that have been used in summer camps.  PRC staff will use this information during this coming year, as they take the baseline information we collected from camps this summer and prepare interventions for these camps, in attempts to improve nutrition and physical activity offerings.
