Preston Public Interest Career Fund Recipient
“I’ve discovered that young people need more of a say in their communities because they do care and they are capable of recognizing when they deserve better in their communities.”
This experience has opened my eyes to issues in my community, but also to the issues all over America that often get overlooked. Some of the examples of what I did are: writing motions for people, helping people file complaints to the court, and interacting with lawyers and business professionals who have offered me internships when I am a law student. As well as travelling to Philadelphia for the National NAACP Convention where I heard President Barack Obama speak and was able to meet NAACP members and youth from all over the country. I also testified at a meeting in front of city councilors, the commissioner, and the chief of police about Boston adopting the Body Camera program. All these amazing experiences have prepared me for my future as a civil rights lawyer. It was also rewarding because I was making a positive impact on people’s life by helping them file a complaint because they did not know how.
