I spent the summer interning for Schwartz & Wade Books, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.

I expected to gain insight into the publishing industry, particularly the editorial side. I thought I’d learn about editing, marketing, publicity, and the interactions between authors, agents, and publishers. I ended up learning so much more. I don’t think I fully appreciated the role of the illustrator in children’s book publishing, or how important the art was that went into the books.
